About the Role
RJ Lee Group, a multidisciplinary scientific consulting and analytical laboratory company, is seeking a Materials Scientist or Applied Physicist to join their Materials Characterization team. The role involves in-depth investigations of material performance, manufacturing processes, product development, quality issues, and failure analyses across a broad spectrum of materials such as metals, polymers, ceramics, glass, minerals, concrete, composites, and electronic substances.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct scientific experiments and lab analyses on diverse material types and systems.
- Operate advanced analytical instruments and interpret resulting data.
- Gather, evaluate, and document experimental results for technical review and client reports.
- Investigate root causes of product failures, manufacturing problems, contamination, and material performance.
- Contribute to method development, design experiments, and address technical challenges.
- Create technical summaries, detailed reports, and presentations for stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams on consulting projects and research.
- Ensure laboratory records, quality standards, and safety protocols are maintained.
- Support project management to align with technical, scheduling, and client requirements.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Applied Physics, Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- Zero to five years of experience in labs, materials characterization, applied science, or technical research.
- Excellent communication abilities for technical writing and verbal presentation.
- Capability to operate both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong analytical thinking, organizational skills, and problem-solving aptitude.
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities in a client-focused setting.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
Preferred Skills and Experiences
- Working knowledge of laboratory instruments like Optical Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman Spectroscopy, Gas Chromatography (GC), and Liquid Chromatography (LC).
- Experience with scientific programming or data analytics tools such as Python or MATLAB.
- Background in failure analysis, manufacturing process troubleshooting, or applied materials research is advantageous.
