Role Overview

We are currently recruiting a Senior Civil Designer to join our water team based in Wellington, with the possibility to be located in Christchurch. The selected candidate will be responsible for producing technically excellent designs for water infrastructure engineering projects. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts on complex multi-disciplinary civil projects, ensuring all design deliverables comply with statutory and regulatory guidelines as well as organizational policies.
  • Develop preliminary and detailed engineering designs aligned with defined project scopes.
  • Produce construction documents and specifications for water infrastructure design works.
  • Plan and allocate resources efficiently to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion of design drawings.
  • Ensure adherence to New Zealand design standards and codes to maintain high-quality outcomes.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence by mentoring junior designers and providing training.
  • Review and endorse related technical work within the discipline.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in civil design within a professional services or consultancy setting, with a focus on water infrastructure.
  • Qualification preferably includes an Associate Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or equivalent, or substantial senior civil design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of civil design principles related to linear infrastructure, land development, stormwater systems, pump stations, flood modeling, civil infrastructure, and roads.
  • Proficiency with Civil3D is mandatory; experience with 12D is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with New Zealand design and drafting standards is required; knowledge of Australian standards is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and guide junior designers in problem-solving and engineering solution development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication capabilities.
