About the role
Join EY in Wellington as an AI and Data Manager, where you will help clients deliver meaningful outcomes through the responsible use of data and advanced technology. In this role, you will partner directly with clients to understand their business priorities, shape solution design, and lead the delivery of projects that create value from data and AI.
You will contribute to Government and Public Sector engagements, applying both technical and advisory expertise to support secure, well-governed, and high-impact data initiatives.
Key responsibilities
- Use a mix of technical and consulting capability to help Government and Public Sector clients improve outcomes through safe and responsible data use.
- Lead project teams and coordinate with stakeholders to deliver complex programs successfully.
- Develop and improve data pipelines and storage structures to ensure data is clean, accurate, and efficiently accessible when needed.
- Embed Zero Trust and data-centric security principles into solutions so information remains protected across its full lifecycle.
- Apply strong data engineering and governance practices to deliver reliable, high-quality results.
- Keep up with emerging developments in data and artificial intelligence and help improve service offerings over time.
- Manage AI and Data projects from initiation through completion, with a focus on on-time delivery and strong outcomes.
- Work with clients to translate business requirements into tailored AI and data solutions aligned to strategic goals.
- Mentor junior colleagues by sharing technical knowledge and encouraging ongoing learning and development.
- Communicate complex technical ideas in a clear, concise way to non-technical audiences.
Requirements
- A strong understanding of cybersecurity, data strategy, data governance, and AI.
- Practical experience with SQL, along with familiarity with tools and platforms such as Python, Snowflake, Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and Power BI.
- Experience supporting or coaching junior team members and helping build a learning-oriented team culture.
- Confidence in explaining technical concepts to stakeholders who may not have a technical background.
- A degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a closely related field.
- Ability to be based in Wellington or willingness to relocate there to meet client requirements.
- Flexibility to work reduced hours may be available for this role; discuss options with the employer.
