This leader is expected to strengthen clinical operations, raise the standard of care, and support the organization’s broader mission of improving outcomes while making services more efficient.
The role calls for an executive who can pair strategic leadership with hands-on medical governance. The CMO will work closely with the executive team to shape innovative care models, improve patient safety, ensure regulatory alignment, and build a patient-first culture supported by data, population health thinking, and cross-functional collaboration.
This position also requires comfort with modern healthcare delivery approaches, awareness of emerging medical technologies, and the ability to work effectively in complex, multi-site healthcare environments.
Key responsibilities
- Create and execute a network-wide clinical strategy that advances care quality and supports the hospital network’s overall vision.
- Champion evidence-based medicine and help standardize clinical practices and protocols across facilities.
- Partner with executive leadership to define, monitor, and improve KPIs related to quality, safety, and operational performance.
- Promote continuous improvement by leading innovation, change initiatives, and best-practice adoption across clinical and operational teams.
- Build strong working relationships with physicians, nursing leaders, department heads, and other stakeholders to support shared governance and decision-making.
- Direct quality assurance and performance improvement programs while maintaining compliance with regulations and accreditation requirements.
- Represent the organization in external professional settings such as forums and conferences, while supporting the hospital’s mission and reputation.
- Coach and develop clinical leaders to strengthen leadership capability and support internal career growth.
- Lead the rollout and integration of telehealth and technology-enabled services that improve access and patient engagement.
- Use analytics to review patient outcomes, identify patterns, and implement improvement plans.
- Resolve complex clinical challenges and encourage interdisciplinary coordination to improve care processes and outcomes.
- Guide the creation of policies and protocols that reinforce patient-centered care and safety.
- Oversee staff education programs that keep clinical teams aligned with best practices and ongoing professional development.
- Support initiatives that advance health equity and address social determinants of health across the served community.
Experience and qualifications
- At least 15 years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare administration, with emphasis on clinical governance and operations.
- A strong record of leading strategic initiatives that improve patient care and operational efficiency in a multi-site healthcare setting.
- Hands-on experience with data-informed decision-making, healthcare informatics, patient outcome analysis, and quality improvement methods.
- Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, compliance standards, and quality assurance expectations.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills for working with physicians, nursing staff, administrative teams, and other stakeholders.
- Solid financial understanding, including budgeting, resource allocation, and performance optimization in healthcare.
- Experience in patient safety, risk management, and organizational change leadership.
- MD or DO degree, along with board certification in a medical specialty.
