Job description
Overview
Join Bristol NHS Group and play a central role in guiding digital change across one of the UK’s largest healthcare organisations. The Group supports more than 1 million people and employs about 28,000 staff, while Digital Services brings together over 550 specialists working across programmes, technology, clinical systems, informatics, and data and analytics.
This is a senior leadership position reporting into the Associate Director of Digital Programmes and acting as their deputy. The post carries oversight of a substantial digital portfolio and combines strategy, investment governance, programme prioritisation, and team leadership. The aim is to make sure digital initiatives are aligned to organisational goals and deliver clear, measurable value.
As the organisation moves towards operating as a single entity, digital transformation is a major lever for improving patient care, staff experience, and operational efficiency. In this role, you will have meaningful influence over transformation priorities, investment choices, and delivery of a multi-year digital strategy.
Key duties
- Act as deputy to the Associate Director of Digital Programmes and provide leadership support across the portfolio.
- Steer the creation and quality review of digital business cases so they match strategic direction and demonstrate strong value for money.
- Run the digital programme prioritisation process in a way that is open, consistent, and based on evidence.
- Own and evolve the Digital Services Roadmap, taking into account priorities, dependencies, and available capacity.
- Set up and manage the Benefits Register so that benefits are clearly identified, monitored, and achieved.
- Track the delivery of Cost Improvement Plans linked to digital investment.
- Offer strategic guidance and assurance to senior leaders and governance groups.
- Lead, coach, and strengthen a high-performing Strategy and Investment team that supports core service delivery.
Role impact
This position is important in making sure digital programmes are joined up, properly prioritised, and able to deliver tangible outcomes that support the Group’s wider ambitions.
