Role overview
In this role, you will serve as the main link between clients and internal laboratory teams, making sure samples, service requests and communications move efficiently from intake through to completion. The position also supports client engagement and commercial growth across the Newcastle and Hunter region, with a focus on environmental testing and related services.
What you will do
- Act as the primary contact for important environmental clients in the Newcastle and Hunter area.
- Manage the flow of samples, including receipt, registration, labelling, storage, dispatch and logistics.
- Keep customers informed about sample progress, expected turnaround times and any issues that may affect delivery.
- Work with laboratory, operations and management teams to track service performance and address client requirements.
- Identify business opportunities, attend client discussions and support account growth initiatives.
- Prepare, scope and follow up on quotations and tenders aligned to business goals.
- Develop and maintain productive long-term relationships with current and prospective customers.
- Monitor client activity, revenue patterns and opportunities to expand service uptake through upselling or cross-selling.
- Share market observations, client feedback and industry trends to inform planning.
- Assist with fieldwork such as site visits, sample collection and marine sampling when needed.
- Support basic laboratory testing and related tasks as required.
- Maintain complete records and ensure work is carried out according to quality, safety and compliance standards.
About you
- You hold a scientific diploma or degree, or bring equivalent relevant experience.
- You have experience in environmental laboratory services and/or client-facing service roles.
- Background in business development, quotation preparation or account management is highly desirable.
- You have a current driver’s licence and can travel locally.
- Experience in a high-throughput laboratory setting is preferred.
- You are comfortable using common computer applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience with LIMS platforms is preferred.
