Job description

Position Overview

The Laundry Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laundry facility onboard. This role requires technical expertise in laundry management, equipment knowledge, and the ability to implement and supervise operational procedures effectively. The Laundry Manager reports directly to the Executive Housekeeper and ensures smooth, efficient, and quality laundering services across the ship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise all laundry operations including washing, ironing, dry cleaning, and storage of laundry products.
  • Maintain all laundry equipment in fully operational condition, coordinating timely repairs in partnership with the Executive Housekeeper.
  • Ensure proper sorting of linen across all divisions, requiring linen to be free from contaminants and sorted by color before processing.
  • Perform quality checks after each washing cycle to guarantee laundry meets the required standards and apply quality controls throughout the process.
  • Daily inspection of dryers to ensure they are lint-free and operating at correct temperatures.
  • Coordinate regular checks to confirm that all equipment functions optimally and water temperatures meet laundry standards; report findings to relevant departments.
  • Manage cleaning and laundering services for non-logo uniforms, verifying uniform authenticity for no-charge services.
  • Handle all laundry-related problem resolutions in coordination with the Executive Housekeeper.
  • Supervise sorting, washing procedures, and ensure timely distribution of laundered items throughout the ship’s departments including staterooms, crew quarters, Food & Beverage, Spa, Pool, and Cruise Division.
  • Work closely with Cruise Division to schedule laundering of costumes and specialty items used in theater or character performances to meet specifications and deadlines.
  • Set washing formulas and cycles based on linen type and soil level; collaborate with Ecolab representatives for machine maintenance and calibration.
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of laundry areas and equipment.
  • Oversee and coordinate maintenance and repair of laundry machinery; promptly report malfunctions to the Executive Housekeeper.
  • Manage chemical supply requisitions aligning with budget constraints; advise on non-chemical supplies required for laundry operations.
  • Collaborate with senior ship staff to ensure premium quality items such as Top Suite linens and towels are laundered and returned timely to guests.
  • Conduct quality control checks for premium linens and liaise with relevant departments to maintain high standards.
  • Review weekly revenue and sales generated by guest and crew laundry with the Executive Housekeeper; identify opportunities to meet or exceed targets.
  • Review financial budgets regularly to ensure operations adhere to monthly and annual plans.
  • Address guest laundry concerns in line with onboard problem resolution policies to maximize guest satisfaction.
  • Apply environmental policies related to solid waste management and chemical use in laundry services.
  • Comply with SQM policies and participate fully in all shipboard emergency drills and procedures, requiring full use of physical abilities and senses.

Hiring Criteria

Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates must have at least three years of relevant experience or training in laundry management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

This role demands regular standing and walking, manual dexterity, ability to hear and communicate, and occasional stooping, kneeling, or crawling in emergencies. The employee needs to frequently lift or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity including close vision, distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment is necessary to perform the duties effectively.
