Material Control Specialist

Role overview

The Material Control Specialist supports the Lead or Senior MCS by handling administrative work related to receiving, storing, inventorying, and issuing government material and property. The role also involves maintaining automated stock records in Maximo and other computer-based systems, along with operating material handling equipment to move items when needed.

Key duties

• Complete assigned tasks to the expected standard.
• Count and sort incoming materials to confirm items match requisitions or invoices.
• Inspect stock to verify quantity and compliance with specifications, then place items in bins, on shelves, on the floor, or in containers based on identification details.
• Pick and issue supplies from inventory, and support periodic, special, or perpetual stock counts.
• Prepare reports covering stock usage, inventory adjustments, record changes, damaged goods, shelf-life issues, stock location updates, and shipment refusals.
• Create daily inventory, receipts, and issue reports, along with any other reports required by the Performance Work Statement.
• Apply identification codes, figures, or letters to items using labeling equipment.
• Update inventory and storage locations as needed, considering storage method, temperature, humidity, weight and height limits, turnover, floor load capacity, and space requirements.
• Move materials or supplies between departments using a pallet jack, forklift, or industrial truck.
• Protect sensitive and pilferable items and ensure they are stored in line with all applicable regulations.
• Maintain inventory and stock records through a computer terminal for items such as retail or wholesale goods.
• Receive, store, and sort unserviceable equipment and supplies for disposal.

Qualifications

This is an entry-level logistics and warehousing position. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, although related work experience may be accepted in place of one year of education if a degree is required. The incumbent must be able to obtain an on-post license and/or a Qatar or Host Nation driver’s license, as well as a Smart Card. Strong English comprehension is essential, including speaking, listening, reading, writing, and typing. The ideal candidate should be well organized, detail-oriented, comfortable with basic math, able to follow moderately complex instructions, and capable of accurately recording data.

Work environment

The job may sometimes require outdoor work in extreme temperatures. Personal protective equipment may be necessary in certain situations, including head, foot, torso, respiratory, vision, and hearing protection. Compliance with fire and safety rules, as well as post policies, is mandatory.
