Plan Review Specialist

Overview

This contract role is for a building code compliance professional who will review architectural and engineering plans from a remote setting. The work focuses on identifying code issues, evaluating permit and zoning requirements, and providing practical guidance on compliance for both residential and commercial projects.

Compensation and schedule

The pay rate is $50 to $80 per hour. The assignment is remote and is expected to involve around 10 to 40 hours of work each week.

What you will do

• Examine architectural and engineering drawings to determine whether they align with applicable building codes.
• Read and interpret blueprints, permit paperwork, zoning rules, and construction records.
• Assess code-related situations and explain the reasoning behind compliance decisions and recommendations.
• Spot permit issues, code breaches, and regulatory risks in both residential and commercial work.
• Work with architects, engineers, contractors, inspectors, and permitting staff to resolve compliance questions.
• Prepare concise written reports that explain code interpretation and the results of compliance reviews.

What we are looking for

• Proven background in building codes, permitting, inspections, zoning, or plan review.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings and technical project documents with accuracy.
• Hands-on exposure to residential and/or commercial construction projects.
• Strong reasoning, troubleshooting, and communication abilities.
• Comfort working independently in a remote environment while handling several assignments at once.
• Experience partnering with multiple functions on project-based work.
