Job description
Role overview
This long-term position in Qatar is an expression of interest for a Principal Project Controls Engineer to support Wood’s continued expansion. The role will contribute to project delivery across FEED, pre-FEED, brownfield, and greenfield scopes, with responsibility for executing work in line with the project execution plan and the applicable Wood and/or project procedures for safety and quality control. Work will be carried out against agreed man-hour, cost, and schedule targets.
Business focus
The office is aligned to brownfield and greenfield opportunities, and candidates with exposure to both onshore and offshore oil and gas environments are particularly valued.
Key responsibilities
The Principal Project Controls Engineer will serve as the main point of contact with the client and any contractor project controllers to ensure accurate reporting of progress and cost, while keeping alignment with reporting requirements. The role also includes ownership of planning support materials, CTR budget administration, payment plan coordination, invoicing, and project controls procedures.
Additional responsibilities include producing weekly and monthly schedule and cost reports using earned value management, forecasting project performance, tracking milestones and critical path movement, maintaining work breakdown structures and cost/planning control structures, and managing work approvals, cost codes, and budget setup. The position also supports billing teams, baseline and forecast rate applications, earned value measurement, quantity updates, S-curves, histograms, and fully resourced logic-linked Gantt charts. The role requires monitoring resource needs, identifying schedule slippages and float erosion, supporting recovery planning, coordinating change orders and variations, maintaining change management records, attending client progress meetings, contributing to proposal schedules and CTR packs, and supporting cost and schedule risk analysis. The incumbent must keep project controls processes current and ensure that projects are delivered to quality, time, and budget expectations.
Experience and qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in engineering is required. Candidates should have at least 15 years of experience in the oil and gas sector, with a strong background in offshore downstream work. Prior success in a similar position within an engineering design company is expected, and Middle East experience will be considered an advantage.
