Role overview

The Quality Engineer will make sure that engineering, project delivery, and procurement activities used for datacentre fit-out solutions are aligned with the required quality, compliance, and performance benchmarks. This is an office-based position with responsibility for strengthening process controls, supporting cross-functional delivery teams, overseeing supplier quality, and keeping documentation and outputs aligned with both internal standards and customer-specific expectations.

The position plays an important part in helping the business deliver dependable, high-quality datacentre projects, limit defects and rework, improve supplier performance, and maintain strong quality governance across the full project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

  • Strengthen quality controls across engineering workflows, including approval steps and document management.
  • Provide governance and practical support so engineering outputs meet internal standards, regulatory obligations, and client requirements.
  • Carry out quality reviews of drawings, technical submissions, engineering change control records, and design documents.
  • Assist with structured risk activities such as dFMEA, PFMEA, and design verification.
  • Monitor adherence to ISO 9001, ISO 37301, and internal SOPs governing engineering processes.
  • Manage documented information for engineering and customer records across projects so files remain complete, well-structured, and contract-compliant.
  • Help engineering teams create quality plans, inspection and test plans, and QA checklists for all product families.
  • Audit project management activities, including planning, scheduling, change control, and project reporting.
  • Track NCRs, corrective actions, preventive actions, and lessons learned across projects.
  • Monitor compliance with stage-gate reviews, technical submission requirements, and delivery deadlines.
  • Ensure procurement processes follow approved supplier criteria, required documentation, and compliance checks.
  • Work with supply chain teams to assess new suppliers and review supplier performance.
  • Examine supplier records such as certificates of conformity, test reports, specifications, and warranty packs.
  • Lead supplier NCR handling and support root-cause analysis plus corrective action plans.
  • Support procurement with technical quality requirements for purchased materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready quality records across all business functions.
  • Control quality procedures, templates, checklists, and workflows through a structured document management process.
  • Prepare the business for internal and external audits, including ISO 9001, customer, and compliance audits.
  • Support tender responses and customer document packs relating to quality processes.
  • Keep quality documentation version-controlled, accessible, and consistent with company standards.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify quality processes and improve consistency between departments.
  • Develop dashboards, KPIs, and reporting tools to support quality governance.
  • Lead or support improvement initiatives using Lean tools, 5 Whys, RCA, and CAPA.
  • Train engineering, project, and procurement teams on quality standards and best practices.
  • Encourage a strong culture of quality and operational excellence throughout the organisation.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Quality, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Background in an engineering or project-based quality role, ideally within construction, MEP, or technical industries.
  • Good understanding of quality management systems and process control methods.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and supplier documentation.
  • Hands-on use of quality tools such as RCA, 5 Whys, Ishikawa, FMEA, and CAPA.
  • Strong documentation, organisational, and analytical abilities.
  • Experience in datacentre, modular construction, or MEP manufacturing settings is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 37301, EN 1090, or similar standards is an advantage.
  • Exposure to project management methods and systems such as stage-gate or PMO frameworks is desirable.
  • Understanding of procurement quality, vendor assessment, and supply chain processes is useful.
  • Knowledge of Lean principles or other process improvement approaches is beneficial.
  • Attention to detail, strong ownership, and accountability.
  • Clear communication skills with the ability to challenge, influence, and support cross-functional teams.
  • Proactive approach with the ability to spot quality risks early and implement preventive measures.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with a structured and logical style of analysis.
