Job description

About the role

As a Relief Dispenser, you will move between stores within a set local area and play an important part in the pharmacy team. You will support the pharmacist and wider healthcare colleagues to help deliver pharmacy and healthcare services safely and efficiently.

In the healthcare area of the store, your day will involve building strong relationships with patients, understanding what they need, welcoming them, dispensing prescriptions, and helping with the safe sale of medicines. You will also use your healthcare knowledge to guide patients so they can make well-informed choices about their health and wellbeing.

This position is based in the UK. Remote applicants will not be considered. Applications from candidates outside the UK will only be progressed if relevant UK qualifications and proof of the right to work in the UK can be confirmed.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare and dispense prescriptions while making sure medicines are supplied safely, including ordering stock, labelling, dispensing, endorsing, and collecting prescriptions.
  • Work alongside healthcare colleagues in the store to help manage and deliver pharmacy services.
  • Offer patients advice and support on medicines, and direct questions to the Pharmacist when needed.
  • Follow standard operating procedures to ensure prescriptions are dispensed safely and legally.
  • Stay current with new in-store developments and follow operational processes correctly.
  • Help patients manage repeat prescriptions in a way that supports adherence and reduces medicine waste.
  • Communicate with store teams to maintain continuity of patient care.
  • Work with changing in-store technology and new systems that improve dispensing processes, patient safety, and time spent with patients.

Training and development

You will receive regular updates and training to strengthen your healthcare knowledge, along with development opportunities that may include training as a Pharmacy Technician or progressing into the store leadership team.

Pay and terms

The hourly pay for this position is £13.92, rising to as much as £16.64 in selected London locations.

Eligibility and requirements

You must have completed the Pharmacy Advisor qualification at NVQ2 level, or an equivalent qualification. You also need the ability to travel across the assigned area with complete flexibility and hold a current, valid UK right to work. This role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship.

Experience in community pharmacy would be an advantage.

Benefits

  • Discretionary Christmas gift payment.
  • Staff discount at a generous rate.
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption leave pay, plus a gift card for employees expecting or adopting a child.
  • Flexible benefits package.
  • Free, round-the-clock counselling and support through TELUS Health, the employee assistance programme.

About the employer

The organisation is committed to people who care and go the extra mile to make things better. It aims to keep improving and offers a workplace built on consideration and inclusion so colleagues can be themselves and reach their full potential. It is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and promotes a positive, inclusive environment.

What happens next

Your application will be reviewed by the hiring team, and successful candidates will be contacted to arrange an interview with the hiring manager. If you need support during the application or interview process, reasonable adjustments can be provided.

For full-time roles, part-time and job share options may be discussed during the application process.

Pre-employment checks

The successful candidate will need to complete pre-employment screening after an offer is made. Depending on your location, this may include a DBS check, a PVG check, or an Access NI check.

The employer operates a Ban the Box policy and will assess applicants with criminal convictions individually.
