Software Development Engineer in Test

Job Overview

Our client, a prominent financial services firm based in Dublin, is looking for a skilled Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to enhance the quality and reliability of their software products. This role focuses on driving strong test automation, quality engineering principles, and continuous refinement of testing processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Create and deploy automated testing solutions covering both functional and non-functional requirements.
• Build, maintain, and improve scalable automation frameworks for API, integration, and user interface tests.
• Work closely with development teams to ensure software solutions are test-friendly, maintainable, and adhere to quality standards.
• Define and help shape test strategies for new features and platform upgrades.
• Conduct both automated and manual testing throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Support CI/CD pipelines through automated test execution and detailed reporting.
• Analyze test outcomes, detect defects, and collaborate with developers for prompt resolution.
• Champion quality engineering best practices and contribute to enhancements in testing tools and methodologies.
• Engage actively within Agile teams to assist in sprint planning, grooming, and quality assurance activities.
• Provide transparent reporting on test coverage, quality metrics, and results.

Experience and Skills Required

• At least 3 years in a Software Development Engineer in Test, Automation Engineer, or related quality engineering role.
• Proficient in Java development with hands-on experience.
• Skilled in designing, building, and maintaining automated testing frameworks.
• Experienced in automation across API, integration, regression, and UI testing layers.
• Capable of contributing to test strategy creation and automation planning.
• Strong grasp of Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) and automation testing concepts.
• Familiar with Agile software development and team environments.
• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and automated builds.
• Solid expertise in database testing, including SQL-based data validation.
• Excellent communication and ability to engage with stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using automation tools and frameworks like Selenium, Cucumber, Serenity, and Rest Assured.
• Knowledge of tools such as Maven, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, and Git.
• Familiarity testing RESTful and SOAP services.
• Understanding software quality metrics, code quality analysis, and quality gate procedures.
• Prior experience in financial services or similarly regulated sectors.
• Exposure to OCR technologies, quotation software, or enterprise applications.
• Additional language skills are a benefit.
• Awareness of current software delivery and release management best practices.

Educational Background

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or related fields.
• Relevant certifications in testing, quality assurance, or Agile methodologies preferred.
