Critical Facilities Manager

About the Role

The Critical Facilities Manager will oversee the reliability, safety, and operational efficiency of essential facilities and infrastructure supporting the center’s functions. This part-time remote position involves tracking facility conditions, managing maintenance coordination, and ensuring the smooth operation of power, cooling, and IT systems with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain critical facility systems to ensure optimal performance and safety.
• Coordinate maintenance tasks with internal teams and external service providers.
• Develop and update protocols for incident response, preventive maintenance, and risk mitigation.
• Analyze performance data and generate clear reports with recommendations for improvements.
• Assist in planning facility capacity expansions aligned with strategic goals.

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience managing critical facilities or infrastructure like data centers, specialized labs, or university facilities.
• Good understanding of mechanical, electrical, and IT systems in facility operations plus basic awareness of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Ability to create and implement structured procedures for incident and risk management.
• Strong organizational skills to multitask effectively in a part-time remote role.
• Excellent communication skills to liaise with technical teams, administrators, and vendors.
• Familiarity with office and collaboration software including spreadsheets and remote communication tools.
• Educational background in engineering, facilities management, IT, or related disciplines is preferred.
• Experience in academic, research, or innovation environments is advantageous.
