About the Role
Join a forward-thinking team focused on developing the next wave of user interfaces combining Mixed Reality, AI Vision, and Natural Language Voice Interaction. This position involves researching and prototyping innovative interaction techniques that merge artificial intelligence with mixed reality technologies to revolutionize how operators design and control excavators in real-time field environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate and create new HMI/HCI prototypes using computer vision and neural networks to interpret complex construction scenarios.
- Develop immersive mixed reality applications for excavator operators using AR/VR wearables to visualize virtual designs.
- Build and evaluate software initially through advanced simulators, followed by live testing within excavator cabins on construction sites.
- Continuously improve interaction models based on feedback and performance evaluations.
- Work closely with senior research engineers to prioritize the most effective technologies for global earthmoving product lines.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Current enrollment in a degree program related to Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a similar discipline.
- Strong grasp of mixed reality or 3D visualization software development with enthusiasm for exploring novel UI concepts.
- Hands-on coding experience in platforms like Unity, Godot, Python, or C#.
- Experience employing Generative AI in software development to speed prototype iterations.
- Demonstrated curiosity, teamwork skills, and ability to manage priorities in a fast-evolving research environment.
- Legal eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory.
Preferred Attributes
- Knowledge of AR/VR hardware integration and techniques for user testing.
- Interest in heavy machinery or applying gaming technologies to industrial processes.
