Position Summary and Responsibilities

The Patient Observation Assistant role involves continuous visual and auditory monitoring of assigned patients under the guidance of Registered Nurses and unit managers, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.

• Provide constant observation of assigned patients' behavior and condition.
• Complete observation reports at regular intervals as established by the facility.
• Offer compassionate, supportive service and positive interactions with patients, staff, visitors, and colleagues.
• Stay present at the patient's bedside unless relieved by authorized personnel.
• Redirect patients verbally to prevent at-risk behaviors.
• Promptly seek assistance or escalate to medical professionals if patients show signs of distress or pose safety concerns.
• Contribute to identifying and reporting patient safety issues; maintain a safe and hazard-free environment.
• Help calm and reorient patients during episodes of agitation or confusion.
• Maintain patients' rooms in an orderly and safe manner.
• Accompany patients during diagnostic procedures when required.
• Immediately notify nursing staff of any unusual patient behavior or urgent needs.
• Communicate pertinent patient information during shift changes and coordinate coverage during breaks.
• Assist patients with meal ordering and setup, as well as basic mobility tasks when cleared by nursing staff.
• Respond promptly to emergencies and special needs.
• Adhere to departmental policies, including appearance, attendance, confidentiality, and safety standards.
• Participate in ongoing training and education programs.
• Support team members and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
• CPR AED or Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS-HCP) certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire if required by the facility.
• Physical ability to stand or walk for extended periods, with frequent bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Preferred previous experience of one to two years in healthcare.

Work Schedule and Location

Positions are available full time and part time, with varying schedules and hours to be discussed during the interview. Location for this role is LVHN Schuylkill, 700 East Norwegian Street, Pottsville, PA. Applications are accepted online only.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly fixed wage for this position is $17.00. Selected shifts and locations may offer shift differentials, details discussed upon interview.
