Job Summary
As a Software Engineer at NetApp, you will engage in developing high-quality embedded software and firmware that supports our storage systems and flash-based performance solutions. You will design and build technologies involved with the latest processors, memory tech, communication protocols, and system management features.
Responsibilities
- Analyze and specify software and firmware requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
- Architect and design software solutions and frameworks.
- Develop, integrate, test, and debug embedded software and firmware components.
- Conduct performance assessments and optimize system functionality.
- Support early customer interactions and ongoing maintenance activities.
- Provide technical leadership and collaborate across teams to deliver new platforms and features.
- Address complex technical problems using innovative approaches with ownership of deliverables.
- Communicate effectively with engineers, project teams, and senior leadership to influence technical decisions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of professional software development experience, specifically with embedded systems and hardware-focused software such as low-level drivers.
- Proficiency in programming languages including C, C++, and Python.
- Experience with source control tools like Git and GitHub.
- Skilled in creating and executing unit tests, functional tests, and integration testing.
- Strong background in embedded software and firmware design and coding.
- Experience with UNIX-based operating systems like Linux or FreeBSD.
- Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD methodologies for streamlined development and deployment.
- Use of AI-powered software engineering tools to enhance quality and effectiveness.
- Ability to collaborate efficiently in dynamic team environments and mentor junior engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of platform management technologies such as IPMI, Redfish, Swordfish, environmental monitoring.
- Experience with hardware communication interfaces including RS-232, I2C, SPI, CAN, USB, and Ethernet.
- Familiarity with x86 architectures, memory modules like NVRAM and Flash, and networking hardware.
- Understanding of storage and interconnect technologies such as SATA, SAS, PCIe, and NVMe.
