Role Summary

We are recruiting a skilled Project Engineer to oversee delivery of the Cook Strait Interislander Ferries – Wellington Port Infrastructure Early Works. This vital part of the broader Interislander initiative involves intricate structural, marine, and port-related construction within an active operational site.

The Project Engineer will lead planning and execution across primary work streams, collaborating closely with Site Engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, and stakeholders to ensure successful achievement of schedule, budget, safety, and quality targets.

This role is ideal for an engineer who embraces complex environments, demonstrates proactive problem solving, and confidently manages teams during technical construction phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and execution of structural and allied civil works.
• Develop and maintain short to medium-term schedules and comprehensive work packages.
• Coordinate subcontractor activities, machinery, resources, and workflow to meet project milestones.
• Track expenditures, perform cost forecasting, and oversee budget management for assigned tasks.
• Offer technical support and mentorship to Site Engineers.
• Ensure stringent adherence to safety standards, quality requirements, and environmental policies on a high-risk, operational site.
• Participate in risk analysis, temporary works management, and evaluations of constructability.

Candidate Profile

• Holds a tertiary degree in Civil Engineering or a comparable field.
• Demonstrated experience as a Project Engineer managing concrete structure projects; familiarity with marine construction is advantageous.
• Comprehensive knowledge of reinforced concrete applications, temporary works, and staged construction methodologies.
• Capable of leading teams comprising engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors effectively.
• Possesses strong commercial insight, particularly in cost control and financial forecasting.
• Excellent communicator with a cooperative and solution-oriented approach.
