Role Overview

This role is for a detail-focused Operations Data Analyst Intern to assist the Field Operations team. The position involves working with operational data such as markets, territories, business locations, worker coverage, and visit schedules to create and maintain route maps and planning spreadsheets that keep field operations running smoothly. The internship is fully onsite, includes defined deliverables, performance-based incentives, and frequent feedback. It is a good fit for someone who enjoys Excel-heavy data work, has a sharp eye for detail, and wants practical exposure to operations in a fast-growing marketplace.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and update Excel workbooks used for field operations route planning, territory coverage, and visit scheduling.
• Prepare, clean, and structure location and operations data including addresses, zones, markets, visit frequency, and priority levels.
• Build route layouts and territory maps in Excel using tables, pivots, conditional formatting, and mapping tools such as Google Maps when requested.
• Assist in route optimization by organizing stops based on geography, time windows, and field operations capacity.
• Create daily and weekly planning sheets showing which locations each field operator should visit, in what order, and with what targets.
• Monitor coverage gaps such as missed visits, unserved businesses, and uneven territory distribution, then report issues to the field operations lead.
• Keep clear records of assumptions, data sources, and file version history for all planning documents.
• Revise plans based on feedback from field operations staff and managers to improve usability and accuracy.

Required Skills

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, pivot tables, conditional formatting, data validation, named ranges, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, IF, and date-based formulas.
• Ability to maintain clean data through sorting, filtering, deduplication, and standardization of addresses and zones while identifying inconsistencies.
• Comfort with spatial and route planning concepts such as grouping locations by proximity, territory, and drive time.
• High attention to detail for accurate data entry, output verification, and error detection before plans are used in the field.
• Clear written communication for spreadsheet notes and the ability to explain how routes or territories were designed.
• Dependability in meeting deadlines, following SOPs and templates, and responding promptly to revision requests.

Preferred Experience

• Exposure to Google Sheets or Excel Power Query for importing and refreshing data.
• Familiarity with mapping platforms such as Google My Maps, QGIS, or route APIs.
• Basic SQL knowledge or comfort exporting dashboard or CSV data into Excel.
• Previous experience in logistics, field sales, delivery routing, or operations planning.
• Understanding of US or Canada metro markets and multi-city territory planning.

Sample Deliverables

• Territory assignment sheet linking businesses to field operators, zones, and visit cadence.
• Weekly route plan with ordered stops for each field operator and estimated time or distance notes.
• Coverage dashboard showing visit completion percentage, market gaps, and overdue visits.
• Master location file with validated addresses, geocodes where available, and market tags.

Working Expectations

• Each day, update planning files with the latest operational data and correct issues raised by field operations staff.
• Each week, refresh route maps and territory balance sheets, and share a summary of updates and unresolved gaps.
• All plans must be accurate, repeatable, and easy for a non-analyst field operations team member to follow.
