About the Programme and Role

The Programme for Accelerated Community Development (PACD) is designed to tackle poverty and inequality at the community level through a collaborative multisectoral model. It supports government efforts to effectively deliver services to remote populations by partnering with development organizations. The programme aims to revitalize and transform The Gambia's economy, improve access to essential services like water, energy, and roads, and reduce disparities between urban and rural areas, especially in socio-economic infrastructure. This initiative aligns with global development goals to prevent poverty through a multidimensional approach, enhancing national capacities and promoting equity, particularly for women and girls in underprivileged communities.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide dependable and secure driving services to operations and program staff, consultants, experts, and visiting UN personnel.
• Ensure safe transportation of authorized individuals and delivery/collection of mail, documents, and other materials.
• Meet official visitors at the airport and assist with visa and customs procedures when necessary.
• Complete all required road safety training relevant to the position and promptly report any road safety incidents.
• Maintain accurate vehicle logs and contribute to maintenance planning and reporting to promote cost-effective vehicle use.
• Conduct daily minor maintenance on assigned vehicle, including timely oil changes, tire and battery checks, brake inspections, and vehicle cleaning.
• Arrange for major repairs as needed.
• Keep all necessary vehicle documentation and supplies up to date and available, including insurance, office directory, maps, first aid kit, and spare parts.
• Comply with all applicable regulations in the event of any accidents.
• Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

• Secondary education completed.
• At least three years’ experience as a driver with a clean driving record.
• Familiarity with driving rules, regulations, and minor vehicle maintenance skills.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Knowledge of local languages such as Mandinka, Wolof, or Fula is advantageous.
