About the Role
Figma is expanding its talented team of creators and builders focused on making design accessible to everyone. The platform enables teams to collaborate efficiently, from brainstorming and prototyping to integrating designs into code and leveraging AI-driven iteration, allowing seamless teamwork globally. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will engage directly with strategic clients, bridging engineering and product teams to facilitate adoption of Figma's developer tools, particularly Make Local, and transform deployment challenges into actionable insights for product development.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate intimately with strategic customers to comprehend their technical objectives, development workflows, codebases, and constraints.
- Conduct thorough technical assessments to prepare customers for deployment including repository and environment configuration, permissions, and identification of potential adoption challenges.
- Offer hands-on assistance with Make Local and related developer tools, providing setup support, troubleshooting, escalation management, and technical guidance.
- Coordinate with Customer Enablement, Solutions Consulting, Sales, and account teams to align on objectives, timelines, stakeholders, and success criteria.
- Aggregate and analyze product gaps, bugs, workflow trends, technical hindrances, and customer feedback for engineering and product teams.
- Develop reusable resource materials such as troubleshooting guides, readiness checklists, intake templates, playbooks, and enablement assets.
- Define metrics for evaluating success of forward deployed engineering efforts, including adoption rates, setup efficiency, active usage, and support load.
- Contribute to shaping the operating model of Figma’s Forward Deployed Engineering function, focusing on scope, value, and scalability of engagements.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in technical customer-facing roles such as software engineering, solutions engineering, technical consulting, sales engineering, or developer advocacy.
- Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary software development practices including source control, local environments, deployment pipelines, debugging, and build tools.
- Demonstrated success collaborating with enterprise clients to address complex technical issues and drive product adoption.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills capable of interfacing with diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to succeed in ambiguous situations by establishing scalable processes and leveraging emerging technologies including AI and modern developer workflows.
Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with developer, design, collaboration, or AI tools that integrate design and engineering workflows.
- Experience in enterprise customer onboarding, migrations, enablement, and adoption strategies.
- Understanding of frontend development, design systems, component libraries, CI/CD pipelines, monorepos, and developer infrastructure.
- Track record of developing and scaling technical customer engagement programs, pilot projects, or engineering services.
- Capability to translate customer insights into product strategy, documentation, roadmap suggestions, and engineering priorities.
Compensation and Benefits
The role is eligible for a competitive annual base salary ranging from $152,800 to $296,000 USD, varying according to qualifications, experience, and location with localized compensation adjustments for remote employees. Additional benefits include equity awards, health/dental/vision coverage, retirement contributions, parental and family planning support, mental wellness programs, generous paid time off, company recharge days, learning and remote-work stipends, and cell phone reimbursement. Sales roles have incentive compensation plans, and eligible non-sales roles may receive annual bonuses. Compensation structure is subject to change.
