About Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN)

Position Overview
This temporary full-time Junior Data Analyst role specifically supports payroll data management, reporting, and analysis within WRHN's Payroll/Finance department until around January 31, 2027. Based at WRHN Midtown (formerly Grand River Hospital, KW Campus), the position works from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with potential overtime when needed. The incumbent will play a crucial role in overseeing payroll data accuracy, generating comprehensive reports, and providing analysis to improve payroll processes and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately gather, validate, and upkeep payroll data ensuring adherence to applicable laws and policies.
- Produce routine payroll reports such as summaries, tax deductions, and benefit withholdings.
- Create tailored reports on request to meet departmental and organizational information needs.
- Present data-driven insights clearly to management and stakeholders.
- Analyze payroll figures to detect trends, inconsistencies, and improvement opportunities, offering actionable recommendations to boost accuracy and efficiency.
- Support payroll audit activities ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations.
- Work collaboratively with Human Resources, Finance, and other departments to align data and address payroll-related queries.
- Explore and suggest methods to automate and optimize payroll-related workflows.
- Assist in training staff on payroll reporting tools and data interpretation techniques.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Information Technology, or a related field is essential.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in payroll processing, reporting, or related data analysis roles.
- High proficiency with payroll software (like Empath or similar), SQL, Crystal Reports, and advanced Microsoft Excel including data visualization.
- Proven computer skills encompassing data management and reporting solutions.
- Experience in complex multi-union environments, preferably within healthcare settings; fundamental knowledge of payroll administration is beneficial.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical capabilities.
- Excellent both written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and meet deadlines.
- Effective interpersonal skills with a history of building strong collaborative ties across departments.
- Capacity to focus for extended periods during desk work and group meetings.
Work Environment and Schedule
This role operates in a standard office environment Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime depending on workload demands. The position involves prolonged periods of sitting or standing at a computer workstation.
