About the Role
Join us as a Junior Network Support Engineer based in Cardiff, where you'll start a rewarding career in network engineering while gaining hands-on experience supporting diverse client network environments. This permanent role offers a competitive salary of A326,300 and involves hybrid working with onsite presence three days per week, plus regular travel to a customer site in Cambridge. Following an onboarding and training phase alongside seasoned professionals, you will become part of a 24/7 support rotation team eligible for additional shift allowances.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in installing, configuring, testing, and deploying network hardware such as routers, switches, wireless access points, and firewalls.
- Monitor network system performance and availability proactively using industry-standard tools ensuring reliability through routine maintenance and upgrades.
- Provide first and second-tier support by resolving network connectivity, performance, and infrastructure issues promptly.
- Create and update comprehensive technical documentation including network diagrams, configurations, and support procedures.
- Support implementation of network security measures, policies, and best practices to safeguard customer systems.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and related teams across Cloud, Cyber, and IT functions to gain knowledge and contribute to projects.
- Engage directly with customers remotely and onsite to deliver high-quality service and support.
- Participate in a 24/7 operational support rota upon completion of training, with related shift benefits.
Candidate Requirements
- Foundational networking knowledge obtained via degree, apprenticeship, certifications, or practical experience.
- Strong motivation to learn, develop technical skills, and build a network support career within a customer-centric environment.
- Understanding of core networking concepts such as OSI model, TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, IP addressing, and subnetting.
- Basic grasp of routing and switching principles including protocols like OSPF and technologies such as VLAN and STP.
- Familiarity with enterprise-grade network equipment from vendors like Cisco, Extreme Networks, or Aruba.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills with a professional attitude.
- Ability to work effectively within teams and independently in a dynamic tech environment.
- Proactive interest in staying current with evolving networking technologies and best practices.
- Desirable credentials include certifications such as CCNA or CompTIA Network+, plus knowledge of Windows Server, virtualization, network automation with scripting, and cloud networking.
