Role overview
A packaging solutions company in Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire is looking for an experienced Procurement Manager to join its procurement function. You will work with another Procurement Manager and take ownership of a defined set of product categories, with responsibility spanning sourcing, supplier management, cost efficiency, process enhancement, and compliance.
This is a strong opportunity for a commercially focused procurement specialist who enjoys improving ways of working and delivering measurable business value.
Key responsibilities
- Own a designated portfolio of product categories, shape sourcing plans, and help secure continuity of supply.
- Develop and maintain productive supplier partnerships, agree pricing and trading terms, and track supplier performance.
- Partner with the other Procurement Manager to ensure category coverage is well organised and responsibilities are clearly split.
- Drive and support initiatives that improve procurement processes and build continuous improvement into day-to-day activity.
- Keep records accurate and up to date to support PPWR, EPR, and Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) compliance.
- Work with internal teams to ensure product data is correct and new products are introduced on time.
- Review buying patterns, spot savings opportunities, and contribute to wider business goals.
- Improve supplier terms and conditions and support better working capital outcomes.
- Carry out stock reviews.
- Maintain accurate ERP information.
Required experience and skills
- Strong capability in negotiation, organisation, and data analysis.
- Confident communication skills with the ability to manage stakeholders effectively.
- Able to handle several priorities in a busy, fast-moving environment.
- A practical mindset focused on process improvement and ongoing enhancement.
- Experience in the packaging sector would be useful.
- Familiarity with Merlin ERP would be an advantage.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- MCIPS would be desirable.
- Background as a Procurement Manager or Senior Buyer.
- Understanding of packaging products and processes is preferred.
