Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Project Manager specializing in Mangrove restoration to independently manage our most significant mangrove partnership. This dynamic position combines field operations, restoration science, and remote sensing expertise. Responsibilities include managing daily partnership activities, ensuring quality data collection and monitoring, and refining standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to mangrove projects. The role also entails leading the company’s drone imaging program, including flight coordination and processing of imagery. Opportunity for growth aligns with the expansion of our mangrove portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as primary contact for our main mangrove planting partner across Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, and upcoming countries, managing the relationship end-to-end.
• Conduct up to three annual trips to East Africa to meet partners, evaluate sites, and support project audits (each trip lasting 1-2 weeks).
• Oversee one or two additional planting partnerships applying consistent standards and processes.
• Lead recurring partner meetings, including monthly business reviews, establishing agendas, driving decisions, and ensuring follow-up.
• Maintain transparent, concise communication across cultural and operational contexts, with strong accountability.
• Address field issues by coordinating internal teams including product, science, data, and finance for timely resolution.
• Ensure accuracy and timeliness of planting, verification, and survival data while performing data hygiene and quality checks.
• Manage and prioritize monitoring backlog, scheduling survival checks, and providing updates on progress against targets.
• Develop, refine, and audit SOPs for mangrove projects covering planting, survivability, seed germination, and monitoring; standardize these procedures for adaptability across regions and partners.
• Lead and manage the company-wide drone program including budget ownership, flight coordination, image capture supervision, and imagery processing for ecosystem health assessments.

Candidate Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry, remote sensing, geospatial science, environmental science, or related field; advanced degrees advantageous.
• Experience in forest or ecosystem restoration monitoring, preferably with mangroves and/or East African projects.
• Proficient in remote sensing and drone (UAV) operations including flight planning and imagery analysis.
• Proven project management capabilities, particularly managing external partners and meeting deadlines.
• Strong data handling skills with comfort in analyzing field and image data.
• Willingness and ability to travel internationally approximately 10-15% of the time.
• Experience creating or standardizing monitoring SOPs across multiple projects or geographies.
• Excellent accountability, timely follow-through, and clear, concise communication skills, especially in multicultural settings.
• Ability to design structure and processes within a rapidly evolving startup environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of carbon accounting or MRV/MMRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) workflows.
• Leadership or mentorship experience.

Additional Information
