Testing & Commissioning Engineer - High Voltage Substations

Overview

This role involves executing testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and energization duties for high voltage substations, ensuring that all operations comply with project guidelines, safety norms, client specifications, and recognized international standards.

Primary Responsibilities

• Carry out testing and commissioning of high voltage and extra-high voltage substations ranging from 13.8kV to 380kV.
• Perform pre-commissioning and commissioning tasks for equipment such as power transformers, GIS/AIS switchgears, circuit breakers, disconnectors, earthing switches, current transformers (CTs), voltage transformers (VTs/CVTs), protection and control panels, SCADA, and communication systems.
• Conduct protection relay testing and configuration.
• Execute secondary and primary injection testing procedures.
• Perform transformer tests including transformer turns ratio (TTR), winding resistance, insulation resistance, and functional operation tests.
• Validate interlocks, control logic sequences, and protection schemes to ensure proper functioning.
• Support energization and synchronization of equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve any equipment or system issues encountered during commissioning phases.
• Develop commissioning procedures, compile detailed test reports, and manage punch lists.
• Coordinate activities and communications among clients, consultants, and project teams throughout commissioning.
• Enforce adherence to safety protocols and quality standards on-site.
• Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and comprehensive final commissioning reports.

Required Qualifications

• A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
• A minimum of 5 to 10 years experience specifically in testing and commissioning of HV substations.
• Proficient experience with AIS and GIS substations up to voltage levels of 132kV, 220kV, and 380kV.
