About the Role
A leading chemical manufacturer located in Little Island, Cork is seeking an experienced Production Manager for a full-time, permanent position. The successful candidate will oversee daily production activities, ensuring the safe and efficient manufacture of chemical liquids and powders. This role involves direct supervision of production supervisors and operators, working closely with quality assurance, environmental health and safety (EHS), and research & development teams.
Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee production processes to meet targets for output, quality, and delivery while optimising resource use.
- Lead, mentor, and develop production supervisors and operators through performance evaluations, training initiatives, and team-building activities.
- Maintain strict compliance with batch documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), good manufacturing practices (GMP), and ensure full traceability and audit-ready records.
- Enhance quality and food safety by investigating deviations, conducting root cause analyses, and executing corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Promote adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards by conducting risk assessments, implementing safety programs, and managing COSHH, PPE, and permit-to-work procedures.
- Support HACCP and FSSC 22000 food safety protocols to ensure compliance and prepare for audits.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to schedule preventive maintenance, reduce equipment downtime, and maximise operational availability.
- Track production key performance indicators (KPIs), manage material supply, assist with ISO and FSSC audits, and drive continuous improvement projects.
Requirements
- Between 3 to 5 years of experience in production management or supervisory roles in chemical, food, pharmaceutical, or similarly regulated manufacturing sectors.
- Demonstrated leadership of production teams, encompassing scheduling, performance oversight, and employee development.
- Comprehensive knowledge of GMP, HACCP, COSHH, and health and safety legislation applicable to production environments.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and/or FSSC 22000 certification standards and experience supporting audit processes is advantageous.
- Experience handling production planning, batch records, and operating quality management systems (QMS) software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, including experience with root cause analysis tools such as 8D, 5 Whys, or fishbone diagrams.
- Excellent communication skills paired with strong organisational and leadership abilities to effectively motivate teams.
- A third-level degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Technology, Food Science, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
