Estimating Manager

Role overview

An established civil contractor in Auckland is seeking a seasoned Estimating Manager to take ownership of estimating across major infrastructure work. This leadership position involves producing commercially robust, competitive, and precise cost plans for large civil projects, while shaping bid strategy and contributing to tender-stage decision-making.

Key responsibilities

• Direct the end-to-end estimating process for significant civil infrastructure tenders.
• Build, review, and refine cost estimates so they are accurate and market-competitive.
• Guide and support a small estimating team.
• Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to collect pricing and assemble detailed estimates.
• Contribute to bid strategy and tender pricing approaches.
• Assess contract conditions, project risks, and tender documentation.
• Assist with transition and handover to delivery teams once bids are secured.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s qualification in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• More than 15 years of estimating experience within civil infrastructure.
• At least 10 years of experience in the New Zealand construction sector.
• A minimum of 5 years in a senior or lead estimator capacity on major projects.
• Well-established relationships with suppliers and subcontractors.
• Advanced expertise in Candy estimating software.
• Strong commercial judgment, including knowledge of pricing, contracts, and risk.
