Job Description

The Assistant - ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting) is responsible for responding to and managing various emergencies, including aircraft and structural fires, medical incidents, and hazardous material situations within the airport environment. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of all individuals on airport premises by providing effective firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical support.

Responsibilities

  • Promptly respond to aircraft incidents, structural fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and other critical situations occurring on airport property.
  • Execute firefighting, rescue operations, and emergency medical services to safeguard lives and property.
  • Utilize diverse firefighting techniques and agents, such as water, foam, and dry chemicals, to extinguish fires effectively.
  • Conduct search and rescue missions in challenging environments, including areas with smoke and hazardous conditions.
  • Administer first aid and basic life support (BLS) to individuals requiring immediate medical attention until professional medical help arrives.
  • Assist in the safe transfer of patients to appropriate medical facilities when necessary.
  • Conduct daily inspections and maintain firefighting vehicles, safety equipment, and personal protective gear (PPE) to ensure operational readiness.
  • Manage inventory of firefighting supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock and functionality.
  • Actively participate in regular emergency response drills, ICAO-mandated training sessions, and fire simulations.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of incidents, training activities, and shift logs for compliance and auditing purposes.
  • Strictly adhere to all applicable local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines governing firefighting and emergency response, following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times.
  • Identify and report potential safety hazards observed during patrols and inspections, initiating immediate corrective actions.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive incident reports, equipment maintenance logs, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
  • Collaborate effectively with airport operations, medical teams, and external emergency services during incident management.
  • Coordinate with the Duty Manager, Air Traffic Control (ATC), and other airport authorities during emergency operations and training exercises.

Key Stakeholders

  • Internal: Duty Manager - ARFF, Airport Operations Team, Airport Security, Emergency Medical Services, ARFF Crew Members, Engineering & Maintenance Team, Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Team.
  • External: Local Fire Services Department, Airlines Operating at the Airport, Ground Handling Companies, ARFF Equipment Manufacturers/Service Providers, Insurance Companies, Local Community Leaders, Civil Aviation Authorities.

Qualifications

Education Qualification

  • Possess a Diploma in Fire Fighting Technology or a comparable educational qualification.
  • Hold a certification from a recognized firefighting academy.

Work Experience

  • Accumulate 2-3 years of professional experience in firefighting, with a preference for prior involvement in Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) operations.
