Job description
Role overview
This permanent driving postie position is based at Bury St Edmunds Delivery Office, IP32 7YY. The role covers 37.00 hours each week across 5 days from Monday to Sunday, with shifts scheduled between 07:30 and 14:30. Because of operational needs, Sunday working is required once every five weeks, from 09:00 to 16:00.
Royal Mail is going through an exciting period of change, and this role offers the chance to be part of that future. The job is at the heart of everyday life, helping deliver important mail and parcels to homes and businesses throughout the local area. It is a physically active position that involves working outdoors in all weather conditions and supporting the community with reliable, trusted delivery service.
What the role involves
You will be responsible for securely delivering items along your route and handling a range of mail and special items in line with business standards. This includes deliveries such as election materials, along with selected goods like food products and alcohol where applicable.
Working pattern and terms
This is a permanent contract. The advertised hours are 37.00 per week, but roles between 35 and 37 hours are shown as full-time for search purposes. If a contract falls below 37 hours per week, it is treated as part-time in the employment contract.
About you
The ideal person is energetic, dependable, self-driven, and able to work independently. You should be well organised, arrive on time, and be confident providing excellent service to customers. A friendly manner and a community-minded attitude are important, as is being comfortable walking for long periods and working outdoors regardless of the weather. A full UK manual driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points is required.
Rewards and benefits
The role offers a guaranteed hourly pay rate of £13.68, paid monthly and adjusted to your working hours. You will receive 22.5 days of holiday, increasing with length of service and adjusted if you work fewer than 37 hours per week. Additional benefits include a full uniform, a competitive company pension scheme, and strong career development opportunities such as trainee manager roles and apprenticeship schemes.
Family-friendly support is included, with enhanced maternity pay, paternity leave, adoption leave, and shared parental leave. You will also have access for you and your family to free 24/7 wellbeing tools and support, covering physical, mental, financial, and social wellbeing. Other perks include discounts on high street vouchers, travel and attraction tickets, beauty products, gym memberships, and free stamps at Christmas.
Application and inclusion
If your application progresses, the next stage will be an interview with a recruiter. Applicants should make sure their contact details are current when applying. Royal Mail Group welcomes applications from everyone and is committed to an inclusive recruitment process. As a Gold signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant, the business especially encourages applications from the Armed Forces community, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners. If you need adjustments during recruitment, these can be discussed with your recruiter once you are contacted.
