Role overview
This full-time non-management role at The St. Regis Downtown Dubai sits within Engineering & Facilities and focuses on maintaining guest rooms, building surfaces, and related equipment to a high standard. The position is based in Marasi Drive, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Key duties
- Handle guest maintenance requests promptly and speak with guests to help resolve issues.
- Carry out preventive upkeep on tools, kitchen equipment, and mechanical-room equipment, including cleaning and lubrication.
- Inspect tools, machinery, and equipment visually to spot wear or faults.
- Move and use equipment such as tools and radios as needed for the job.
- Find and operate shut-off valves and utility shut-offs for equipment and buildings.
- Track maintenance stock and request parts and supplies when required.
- Share daily work updates and any issues with other shifts using approved communication methods.
- Apply practical knowledge of systems such as air conditioning and refrigeration, electrical and mechanical systems, plumbing, pneumatic/electronic controls, carpentry, finish work, kitchen equipment, vehicles, energy conservation, and general building operations.
- Prepare surfaces and complete painting work, minor drywall and wood-trim repairs, light bulb and air filter replacement, and full cleanup of the work area afterward.
- Test, diagnose, and carry out basic repairs on equipment, plumbing issues such as clogged drains and toilets, electrical items including lamps, cords, switches, outlets, and vacuum cleaners, plus guestroom devices and internet equipment.
- Program televisions and complete routine housekeeping and engineering inventory tasks.
- Use lockout/tagout procedures before starting maintenance work.
- Repair interior and exterior landscaping features, including sprinkler systems.
- Use basic computer tools for tasks such as updating air-handler schedules and adjusting temperatures.
- Follow company policies, safety rules, and security procedures, and report hazards, accidents, injuries, or maintenance concerns.
- Complete required safety training and certifications and store flammable materials correctly.
- Maintain a neat, professional appearance and protect confidential information and company property.
- Greet guests according to brand standards, respond to their needs, and assist guests with disabilities when needed.
- Work cooperatively with colleagues, communicate clearly, and support team goals.
- Lift, carry, push, pull, and move items up to 50 pounds without help, and heavier items with assistance.
- Work on stairs, ramps, and ladders, and perform bending, reaching, twisting, stooping, and other physical tasks as required.
- Use computers to enter and retrieve work-related information.
- Take on other reasonable duties as assigned.
Qualifications and requirements
Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, along with some experience in general maintenance and in preparing and painting interior or exterior surfaces. Experience in hotel engineering or maintenance is considered an advantage. No supervisory background is needed. A valid driver’s license is required.
