Job description
About the role
EY is hiring multiple experienced Senior Consultants or Managers to work as Data Engineers. This role sits at the intersection of data engineering, integration, and model development, with a strong emphasis on building cloud-based data and AI solutions using Snowflake and supporting tools such as Fivetran, dbt, and Coalesce. You will help shape solution architecture, create data ingestion and transformation workflows, design data models and data products, and develop easy-to-use interfaces that help people work with complex data through visualisation tools and natural language interfaces.
This is also a chance to contribute to high-impact work while mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior team members.
In line with client requirements, the role is based in either Auckland or Wellington. Flexible arrangements with reduced hours may be considered, and candidates are encouraged to discuss possible options.
Key responsibilities
- Design solution architecture for Snowflake AI Data Cloud implementations.
- Build and shape data models, along with pipelines that ingest and transform data.
- Connect Snowflake with supporting tools such as Fivetran, dbt, and Coalesce.
- Develop scalable and reliable ingestion and transformation pipelines using Snowpipe, Fivetran, dbt, and Coalesce.
- Work with cross-functional stakeholders to understand data requirements and convert them into practical technical solutions.
- Guide and mentor junior data engineers while encouraging ongoing learning and better ways of working.
- Keep up with emerging tools, trends, and practices in data engineering to help keep the team current.
Skills and attributes
To be successful in this role, you should bring solid hands-on experience in Snowflake AI Data Cloud implementations, data platform architecture, data modelling, scalable pipeline development, and efficient SQL writing. Experience integrating Snowflake with tools and frameworks such as Fivetran, dbt, Coalesce, and Power BI is also important.
Additional strengths that would be valuable include familiarity with Snowflake Horizon Catalog, Snowflake Cortex integration, machine learning model development on Cortex, programming in Python, Java, or Scala, and building interactive user interfaces using Streamlit or similar tools. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving ability, communication skills, and a collaborative, proactive approach are also highly desirable.
Benefits and perks
- Career development support with future-focused learning and varied experience opportunities.
- Flexible work policies designed to support balance between work and personal commitments.
- A broad benefits package that includes a yearly wellness incentive.
- Up to 8 weeks of additional flex leave each year.
- Family-friendly policies, including 26 weeks of gender-neutral paid parental leave.
Eligibility and inclusion
Applications are welcomed from people of all ages, nationalities, abilities, cultures, sexual orientations, and gender identities. EY is committed to an inclusive, accessible, and barrier-free recruitment process, and candidates are encouraged to share any adjustments or support they may need. Any information shared will be treated confidentially.
Additional information
The preferred candidate will need to complete employment screening through EY or an external third-party provider. The employer also notes that roles may be adapted to support flexible working, including reduced hours where appropriate.
