About the Role
We are looking for a detail-focused Assistant Accountant to join a dynamic finance team on a temporary basis (approximately 2-3 months) located in Grafton, Auckland, with onsite parking available. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, you will be instrumental in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting month-end and year-end activities, ensuring compliance with tax obligations, and assisting in business-wide financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Support month-end closing tasks including journal entries, accruals, prepayments, and account reconciliations.
- Prepare and investigate balance sheet reconciliations for any discrepancies.
- Assist in producing monthly management reports with variance analyses and financial insights.
- Maintain and update the fixed asset register accurately.
- Conduct bank reconciliations ensuring correct transaction recording.
- Help with cash flow monitoring and forecasting processes.
- Contribute to budgeting and forecasting exercises by analyzing budget versus actual performance.
- Manage supplier invoice processing, including coding, approvals, and payment preparation.
- Process employee expenses and company card transactions adhering to policy guidelines.
- Maintain supplier records and respond promptly to internal and external finance queries.
- Ensure correct and timely processing of sundry invoices.
- Drive continuous improvements in finance-related processes, systems, and controls.
- Assist in preparing GST and FBT returns along with required supporting documentation.
- Support responses to compliance inquiries from Inland Revenue and other regulatory bodies.
- Ensure all financial practices comply with applicable laws and internal policies.
- Help in preparing year-end financial statements and audit documentation.
- Liaise with external auditors, providing necessary information promptly.
- Assist in completing statutory reports and year-end adjustments.
- Participate in finance projects, system upgrades, and testing procedures.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance finance processes and record keeping.
- Provide additional financial analysis and reporting support as necessary.
Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years experience as an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Officer, or similar role.
- Competency supporting month-end closing, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of GST and Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) regulations.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with accounting software.
- Experience with Dynamics 365 Business Central or comparable ERP platforms is beneficial.
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish constructive relationships internally and externally.
- Proactive attitude with an eagerness to support continuous improvement.
